Finding the “News” That Fits What You WANT to Believe

Yesterday as usual I made my coffee and began reading the day’s “news” articles. I go to a number of sources….Google “News” which really is more like People Magazine, Associated Press, Reuters and then on to my favorite which is Real Clear Politics. realclearpolitics.com If you’ve never been to that site it’s a treasure trove of dozens of articles from every news outlet and journal on the planet, as well as polls, graphs, videos and more. Most media bias sites rate it as center or slightly to moderately conservative in bias. Not easy to find these days. Now, the articles that they consolidate are another story. Some couldn’t be more left OR right biased. You can find WHATEVER slant you want here! There are also sports, science and editorials from around the world.

So let’s start with Joe Biden’s first news conference the other night. You can find whatever report of it that you want…..good, bad….indifferent. Let’s see a sample. First up from “The Hill” an American political newspaper published in Washington, D.C. since 1994. It focuses on politics, policy, business and international relations and is considered “center”. “the president largely depended on multipage notes that he curiously took with him to the podium. No president in the modern era has done that before, and when Biden began thumbing through his notes before slowly reading from them at times, it was uncomfortable to watch, considering he is the leader of the free world. It very likely sent a clear message to our adversaries in China, Russia, Iran and North Korea regarding the commander in chief’s command of his own policies and worldview. It would have been nice for one reporter in the room to ask why he needed that kind of assistance, especially considering his nearly five decades in Washington.”

Let’s move on to the polar opposite viewpoint you can find if you’d like. Next on the list is this one from CNN with it’s LEFT leaning bias by most accounts: “Biden, a President who doesn’t insult people — or our intelligence” by Frida Ghitis. “Anyone hoping President Joe Biden’s first formal news conference Thursday would produce a series of gaffes and misstatements must be deeply disappointed. Americans who want a competent, coherent, focused President should feel reassured.”

Let’s move on shall we? How about the over 15,000 children being held at the southern border. Trump was crucified daily over confusion of where 500 children’s parents were and right now the Left is virtually silent. There are hundreds of “right” leaning articles like this one with a video from Fox. “GOP Senators Make Furious Statement after Tour of Mexican Border” Ted Cruz had this to Tweet: “I saw firsthand the #BidenBorderCrisis unfolding on the southern border. My fellow Senators and I witnessed the Biden cages. Then if you want to make yourself feel good because you support Biden and still hate Trump you can make it HIS fault! Instead read THIS angle from “The Atlantic” a tried and true liberal magazine that leans LEFT. “The Real Border Crisis” by Adam Serwer. Adam will tell you that “America has tried to solve its immigration problem for decades through brute force. It doesn’t work.” He goes on to say: “What we can say is that the previous administration’s approach—inflicting as much pain as possible on migrants to deter others from coming—did not work. How about finding out where Covid came from? You’d think this one would be pretty easy to scientifically figure out BUT here we have two views. First the article I found in “The Independent” a British online “newspaper”. “Trump CDC director says Covid ‘escaped’ from Wuhan lab, contradicting Fauci”. That would be Robert Redfield. So what did Anthony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and the chief medical advisor to the president have to say about that? We have THIS from the “New York Post” a “right” leaning newspaper: “Fauci rejects ex-CDC Director’s claim that COVID came from a lab” by Lisa Eustachewich. It goes on to say “Dr. Anthony Fauci on Friday blew off claims from former Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield that SARS-CoV-2 was created in a Chinese lab, saying Redfield was merely expressing an “opinion.”…….okay…..and we’re supposed to have CONFIDENCE in our government, scientists and leaders? I think you get the point.

That’s enough for this Sunday. The “news” isn’t the news any longer….it’s opinion pieces and if you search long enough you’ll find the one that fits whatever it is you want to believe.
